How Infrared Heating Works
Utilizing infrared rays was inspired by the same process that the sun uses to heat the earth. Imagine that you’re on a picnic with your family or maybe your significant other and it is a perfectly beautiful day. The sun is shining, the birds are serenading you and there isn’t a cloud in the sky. The sun blankets your skin and as you lay back and close your eyes, you are perfectly at ease. You open your eyes suddenly because you feel a chill; you lean up and stretch your neck looking for the cause. A huge cloud reaches across the horizon, blocking the source of your warmth.
The sun emits radiation in the form of infrared heat and transfers it to a colder body to be absorbed, i.e. the earth. This radiant heat reaches the Earth in the form of light rays, a particular spectrum of light that is invisible to our eyes. This form of radiation is absorbed by objects, like clothes and bodies, rather than heating a wire and blowing the heat into the air with a fan, like other electric heaters. Most infrared heaters use highly polished reflectors to direct the line of radiation in a uniform and concentrated pattern for optimal absorbency.

Our infrared electric heaters are housed with anodized aluminum, one of the most durable of options. Most metals, when oxidized, become substantially weaker, except for aluminum. By placing a sheet of aluminum in a chemical acid bath (usually acetone), the metal becomes the positive anode of a chemical battery, while the acid bath is negative. Pass an electric current through the acid bath and the surface of aluminum begins to oxidize. The oxidized aluminum replaces the original composition as a stronger, more durable coating. This new metal is non conductive and corrosion resistant allowing for our slim line infrared electric heaters to withstand years of outdoor use with minimal damage from elemental stress.

Since the heat is emitted in the form of light rays rather than by a carbon combustion process, there are no open flame fears or toxic by-products. In fact, you don’t have to worry about possible fuel line issues and they don’t take anything or add anything to the air.
